Amazon.com Review Steve Mariotti, a former New York City high-school teacher, founded the nonprofit National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship after he discovered that students who launched commercial ventures tended to eventually blossom in numerous areas. In this updated edition of The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business, he lays out the critically relevant basics on everything from recognizing opportunities and researching markets to handling finances and protecting ideas--all organized and written specifically for the younger reader. Brief case studies and inspiring tales of notables who started young, including Russell Simmons of Def Jam, Tom Monaghan of Domino's Pizza, and Steve Perlman of WebTV, offer encouragement. New chapters on technology (explaining, for instance, ways that computers and the Net provide competitive advantages) and philanthropy ("ethical business behavior is not only morally right, it's good for business") bring Mariotti's advice into the 21st century. No single volume can provide all the details necessary to get an idea up and running, but this one contains enough information and stimulation to move practically anyone off the couch and into the beginning stages of entrepreneurship. --Howard Rothman

I read this book when I was around 17. I thougt it was informative and easy to read. This book can possibly change a child's life. This book is what started my entrepreneurial fire. I think every freshman should be handed this book upon entering high school. It changes your entire perspective on the buy and sell industry. It opens new up a new career that many children probably would have never considered. I love this book and althoug I am 22 and have read many more books on the subject, I still like to review this book, for information I may have forgotten.

I liked this book a lot. I bought it in high school and it was a good book. It was a little elementary at some points. It talked about running a business such as T-Shirt Printing(where you put designs on a shirt and sell it). A lot of the information was great though. If youre in college it may be a waste of time it's more high school. It's for those who don't know much about businesses.
This is a great book. December 27, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I beleive this is a great book. It gives excellent motivation in getting started in a business. It helps you to understand how to run your business and get it started. It even gives you examples of current businesses started by young entreprenuers.
waste of money August 19, 2003 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
I regret buying this book. It's not a guide for young people to starting your own business unless you call part time babysitting a business or selling your goods at a flea market as having your own business. The "businesses" the author has in mind are are, for example, selling homemade goods to your friends or anyone else you can get to buy them. If you call having a lemonade stand a business, then this book may pertain to you.
